K Phos-Boost Dipotassium Phosphate Bolus Innovation Request K Phos-Boost was developed at the request of veterinarians concerned with the lack of approved boluses dealing with animals that are suspected to be hypokalemic and or hypophosphatemic in the demanding period following calving or when off feed. New from Solvet Research! The first and only Dipotassium Phosphate bolus available in Canada. Solvet has recently introduced a safe and effective alternative to drenching cows with phosphorus and potassium. Oral phosphorus supplementation is the preferred route as commercially available intravenous solutions of phosphorus for veterinary use do not significantly increase phosphorus in the blood. Oral supplementation of potassium rapidly restores normokalaemia. The scientific literature is supportive of the fact that off feed cows are often both hypophosphatemic and hypokalemic. Although, the latter can’t be substantiated reliably with taking blood samples as most of the potassium is stored intracellularly. Phosphorous and potassium deficiency have been described in cows with LDA, ketosis, clinical mastitis, retained placenta, fatty liver, and downer cows. Oral phosphorus supplementation will raise serum phosphorus levels in 90 minutes and will last for up to 24 hours. Oral treatments with potassium will increase serum potassium within 30 minutes and will last for about 12 hours. Unlike the irritation caused by a potassium chloride drench, the K Phos-Boost bolus is easy on the cow due to its protective coating. Based on the oral availability of phosphorus and potassium, supplementation in the above-mentioned conditions may be indicated using K Phos-Boost. The K Phos-Boost bolus contains 106 grams of phosphate and 87 grams of potassium. The safe and recommended dosage is 2 boluses once a day for up to three days. Oral phosphorus supplementation will raise phosphorus levels in 90 minutes and will last for up to 24 hours. Coated a second time, the thicker protective layer provides easy application and prevents damage to the esophagus. K Phos-Boost Features Each seal bag is clearly identified as K Phos-Boost to avoid any risk of confusion with other bolus on the market
